I said to the guy, “I hear you do really well in business, and I have a carpet cleaning company which isn't doing as well as I'd like it to. I'd like to go into another business where I can make some real money. I hear that you do pretty well, so I was wondering if you had any recommendations of what sort of business I could go into where I can do really well.”

“Every next level of your life will demand a different you.”-Leonardo DiCaprio To be successful in the world, what you fundamentally need is prowess of the mind and the body. If you want to harness the mind, one of the most important qualities is equanimity. Equanimity gives you access to different dimensions of the mind. If there is no equanimity, your ability to use the mind is greatly reduced. Another important quality is on the level of your energy – you need exuberance, both physiologically and internally. Only when your energies are exuberant do you have the ability to tide over obstacles in day-to-day life and move towards your success. If equanimity and exuberance are brought into your mind and body, success will come to you much more easily.
If we say yes to most options, we quickly feel stressed and overwhelmed by the volume of work and commitments. By saying no to options that don’t align with our most important goals, we give ourselves the freedom and space to fully commit to the great options.

Blame, whether blaming yourself, another, or anything outside of you, is just a way to give up your responsibility. It’s disempowering and inspires guilt. Don’t give your power away any longer — be responsible for your views, feelings, and actions. Learn from them and keep moving forward.

8. Clarity of purpose. I think Dr. Dweck should be careful with words like "Fourth, we value process here, and we reward process." This sounds a lot like fixed mindset thinking, and could easily be mistaken for fixed mindset thinking by a fixed mindset person. We don't value process per se. Rather, we value the exploration and accomplishments that leads to a new process. No "process" is sacred, only growth is sacred. A growth mindset doesn't start out looking for "the rules", although they definitely observe the rules when they're there for a good reason. A fixed mindset obsesses over "the rules", because these are extrinsic ways to value work done (they're "the straight A's"). A growth mindset obsesses over the work itself, and the rules (at least the right ones) help make the work easier to do. The work is secondary to the "process."

AND, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY! Look at it this way: say you're talking with the stereotypical used car salesman. He's looking for sales to make his quota for the month. You can tell, can't you? It comes through in his voice. It comes through in his body language. It comes through in his urgency. Does it make you want to do business with him? Probably not! Therefore, when you are busily networking, make sure it's about THEM and THEIR needs, not about You and not about the Money. Good luck!
