I’ve found that by telling people I’m wrong when I am, I get the following benefits:
Here are some things you can do starting early on, and if your children are already older, you can still help them revise their mindset. This is a lot of what I do with the college students I see.
36. Keep the Me-Time However, here’s my personal favorite: You ask the customer if they are ready to make a purchase on a new vehicle. They say no and provide an excuse. “We don’t like how it drives.” You then proceed to ask them, “Is there anything else in addition to that?” This time, they mention “No, that’s it.”

Probably the most important thing to remember is that investors are approached hundreds of times a year (if not more) by new companies, which puts them in the driver’s seat when it comes to selecting companies for their portfolios. Because of this dynamic, the reality is that most people with money to put into start-up ventures actually don’t focus on what they like about a business, they focus more on what they don’t like. Essentially, it is most efficient for them to find any reason to say “no” to requests for funding. Don’t give them one! Technology entrepreneurs could save themselves a lot of time – and heartache – if they followed a few rules before they approached angel investors and venture capitalists:
Dweck identifies two mindsets, “growth” and “fixed,” and argues that adopting one over the other dramatically affects performance in many domains. Here’s what she means:
89. Collaborative Mindset BY: BRIAN CORNWELL 100 Ways to Achieve Success 5 out of 5 stars 1,990 Before we set out to conquer the world, we need to conquer ourselves first. Take responsibility for everything, forgive others, be grateful and count your blessings. Recognise that problems are temporary, accept all things thrown at you, be true, positive and help others. Follow your heart, live in the now – yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery. Be decisive and always do what’s right. Don’t focus on the money and be good to yourself. Think and behave like a winner all the time and focus on your goals all day every day. If a goal doesn’t excite you and make you a little nervous you need to think bigger. “If you think big then it’s going to be big” – Emeril Lagasse.
It is a combination of want, have, to be list. Usually it is time-bound with a deadline. Or at least I artificially try to create a milestone with a time stamp. It helps me to create a sense of purpose and urgency within myself and a target to aspire for.
There is no free lunch. Everyone I know who has made millions (earned, not won or inherited), worked hard. They sacrificed, they focused, they learned, and they overcame adversity and setbacks OFTEN. You may get lucky and hit a home run first time up to bat, but its highly unlikely. More likely is that you will strike out a few times, hit some singles, strike out some more, and eventually connect a fatty and bang it over left field (hopefully, the baseball metaphor is somehow relevant!)
Going all in on a few big projects at a time until completion results in massive progression. When we finish them, we can move on to the next set of great options that are waiting. We can achieve everything we want. We just can’t achieve it all at the same time.
You can start by writing down a list of confessions. It’s medicine for the soul. And over time, you can co-create an honest dialogue between you and true friends.
If you want to set SMARTER goals, grab a sheet of paper and start writing. It won’t work without writing it out. What do you want? Specifically, what do you want? Describe it in great detail. Don’t leave any stone unturned. Don’t just say you want millions of dollars or to be skinny. Say an exact number of dollars and an exact amount of pounds or kilos that you want to lose, with a specific date for its achievement.
