A growth mindset obsesses over the work itself, and the rules (at least the right ones) help make the work easier to do. The work is secondary to the "process." Improving a skill requires more than optimism of course. Thousands of hours of deliberate practice are necessary. But these studies suggest that to succeed in any domain a belief in personal development is more important than a reliance on innate ability. The fixed mindset does not offer much room for a person to change or improve. It makes one believe that one's abilities and talents are more or less fixed and nothing much can be done about them. This makes people rigid, resigned, passive, and follow the path of least resistance. Every success if yours counts, all success are big and they all should be celebrated! The size doesn’t matter. Welcome small success and you’ll notice how your day turn into one big continuous success. When you're in college, there are always kids who perform at levels both higher and lower than you do.
